TGL ('The Guardian Legend') is an action/adventure game ala 'The Legend of Zelda'. But the big difference in this game is that instead of having top down only levels. There are also vertical scrolling space shooter levels.

The game begins with one of those scrolling shooter levels. Which is basically you (the Guardian) flying up to the the planet Naju, which is heading straight for Earth. You reach the planet, and confront the boss blocking your way in/onto the planet.

You then continue to make your way around the planet. Destroying bosses, and gaining more power and abilities along the way. This might have been one of the first games where you could go through it as you wanted. Meaning you weren't forced through each level as you went. But could choose which level you wanted to do next. Although the bosses got tougher, and kinda required a specific order. But point of non-linear play is easily visable.

The soundtrack for the game is excellent. And I think when a developer includes a 'sound test' in their game, they know it. When I originally played the game, sometime back in the early '90s, I don't think I really got a feel for the music (as with alot of games). It wasn't untill I got my first NES emulator and TGL rom that I realized how much it kicks ass. It was then that I decided to check eBay and get another NES and TGL.

The point I'm trying to make is, try out this game! If not for the gameplay, then at least for the music. It is a tougher game (alot easier now then back then but), but that makes it even more satisfying when you beat it.

Below are some images and links about the game. I've also included the rom. And don't forgot my cover!
